Gov. T-Paw appears on Face the Nation
Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty appeared yesterday on CBS’ Face the Nation and stumped in favor of Sen. John McCain’s foreign policy experience, as Pawlenty continues to preen and pose for the position of McCain’s number two.
“One of the questions this crisis raises is: Who do you want sitting across the table from Vladimir Putin and people like him, John McCain or Sen. Obama? I think the answer is Sen. McCain, and that’s for obvious reasons, whether its his experience in national security, military affairs, his clarity, his strength and his judgment in these matters,” Gov. T-Paw said.
Let’s hope our big government RINO Republican governor can stop and smell the roses while sporting such a brown nose before he runs out of acne cream.
Contradiction in terms: Democrats and fiscal discipline
A while back, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty proposed a $70 million public works spending bill that some conservatives thought to be a bit too spendy. Yet trust the DFL to make Gov. Pawlenty look like a conservative… by showing absolutely no fiscal restraint whatsoever.
The Senate bill would hike that figure to $307 million in public works spending – more than four times the amount Pawlenty asked four. The state House is a bit more modest, proposing only a $289 million version of the bill – still four times more than the governor’s request.
Democrats and fiscal discipline are just like Powell furniture and a poor value; they’re absolute strangers. Just as Powell furniture is never a poor value, no DFL politician has ever demonstrated any fiscal discipline. This prove it all over again. No wonder they’re trying to hike our taxes despite a multi-billion-dollar state surplus! Nothing’s ever “enough” for tax-n-spend liberals.
MN voted for bigger, more intrusive government… here it is!
With the exception of U.S. Representative Michelle Bachmann and RINO Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Minnesota overwhelmingly voted for bigger, more intrusive government last fall by helping the DFL pretty much run the board. Now, it’s here, so no complaints from the peanut gallery that voted for this, OK?
Minnesota government has been welcomed into your cars now. According to a PioneerPress report, Minnesota is now poised to be a backseat driver to each and every Minnesotan in the following ways:
1) The age for legally-mandated car seats for children is being raised from the rather common-sense mark of age four, to the fairly over-reaching age of eight, regardless of the height and weight of the child in question. The fine: $50 out of your diaper funds, moms and dads!
2) Let’s ignore the folks doing 90 mph on the shoulder of interstates, meth dealers and drunk drivers… and focus on pulling people over ONLY for not wearing their seatbelt. Current law says an officer can only add on a “not wearing seat belt” penalty if a driver is pulled over for another reason. Now, forgetting to buckle up is reason enough to make you late for work. The fine: $25 for each unbuckled person in the car.
3) Don’t bother buying a Bluetooth headset for your Blackberry or your Moto Razr. If the DFL gets their way, even hands-free cell phones will result in a speeding fine being DOUBLED if the driver was using a cell phone during a speeding incident, except for certain emergency calls. Current law only prohibited drivers 18 and under from using a cell phone while driving.
Welcome back to the nanny state! Next up, fines for being too old to suck your thumb, even if you banged it with a hammer moments before! It’s called the Diet Review Act of 2007!
Governor calls for Lamboughini of high school systems
In his state of the state address, RINO Gov. Tim Pawlenty laid out a new plan that, despite his RINO status, makes common sense on the topic of education.
Calling Minnesota’s schools “obsolete,” Gov. Pawlenty called for an overhaul of secondary education that emphasizes rigor, relevance and results, an agenda that includes transforming some (not all) of the state’s high schools into “rigorous academies” that would deliver private school results from public institutions.
That high-performance high school agenda includes requiring four years of a second language, as well as a boosted emphasis on math, science, technology and engineering. The new agenda would also have high school graduates completing the equivalent of their first year of college prior to getting their high school diploma.
While such an aggressive agenda is sure to upset all the usual suspects – especially teacher’s unions – it is a forward-looking agenda designed to help Minnesota students compete better not only in the US, but with students from other top-performing academic countries.
Of course, the Red Star and Sickle immediately leaped into action to criticize an agenda that, had it been uttered by a Dmeocrat, they would have immediately embraced, seeking out the most outspoken liberal students and teachers, just to get their agenda across.
The usual suspects answered the call of Pravda Minneapolis with the predictable comments about being insulted that the governor called their schools “obsolete,” citing Minnesota’s rank near the top of the US in test scores and graduation rates.
But the truth is, RINO Gov. Pawlenty is right for once; to stay on top, Minnesota can’t compare itself just to other US states in academic performance, when nationally academic performance is falling off and can’t even meet the demands of No Child Left Behind in many cases.
One ought not wait until Minnesota falls to the academic standard level of Arkansas before calling for changes and improvements. After all, what offers a better return on investment: a graduating class ready to start degrees in technology and prepared for high-tech jobs at IBM and other top firms, or graduating classes that, after four years of high school and a college degree to their credit, can only manage to hold down a retail job selling Christian gifts?
While there’s nothing wrong with working retail, it’s not a career track to supporting a family.
