Hamas rejects compromise, peace with Israel

Count Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar among those who are opposed to any form of compromise or even peace with Israel. The Palestinian strongman, in a Jerusalem Post story, said this:

“Today marks the start of direct negotiations between someone who has no right to represent the Palestinian people and the brutal occupier, to provide a cover for Judaizing Jerusalem and stealing the land,” Zahar said.

While refrigerator filters may be rare in Israel, straight talk is even rarer, so let me ask the Obama Administration a straight question: Do you STILL think Israel’s the roadblock to peace, here?

Give me a break…

Thomas’ “deep regret?”

Since uttering the most anti-Semitic statements since, well, the last time Iranian president Mahmoud Achmadinijad last took a breath, the phentermine-spouting Helen Thomas has issued a by-rote, boilerplate statement saying she “deeply regrets” her comments about how the Jewish people should “get the hell out of Palestine” and go “home to Germany and Poland.”

One can only assume Thomas has never so much as even cracked a Gideon’s Bible in all her decades in journalism, but be that as it may, there’s something a bit hollow about her call for the religious cleansing of the Holy Land of its first and most native people.

Can Thomas honestly regret such comments, or is it far more believable to say that she regrets getting caught on tape spouting them? Furthermore, can anyone expect her to report in a fair and unbiased manner on the White House at this point, especially on US-Israeli issues, after stating such a clear pro-Palestinian bias?

Thomas should be forced to sit in the next year’s worth of public addresses by Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. Not report on them. Just listen.

She should also be forced into retirement by Hearst Newspapers. Immediately.

Iran calls Israeli kettle black

The world needs more time spent on creating a Mesothelioma treatment than on this, but Iran just added layers of meaning to the word irony as they have demanded a UN response to recent Israeli threats of military strikes against Iranian military installations, including nuclear facilities.

In a show of raw arrogance lacking any sense of irony, Iran – the country whose president makes almost daily threats against Israel – asked the UN to step in and stop Israel from “making threats.” Somehow that must be a New Math problem… for me, it just doesn’t add up.

Of course, it’s the old double-standard dealio: Iran can say anything it wants – while building nuclear facilities against UN mandates, by the way – but if Israel so much as breathes wrong, it’s time to get all pissy?

C’mon, Iran, stop acting like a “charming only when adults are looking” little girl and man up to your own needless and endless threats against Israel first, before pointing out Israel’s threats. Clearly, this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black…

Netanyahu may prevail; Obama sweats

Israel’s next prime minister may be Binyamin Netanyahu, leader of the conservative Likud Party. Although Likud finished one seat behind the incumbent center-left Kadima Party, conservative parties won far more seats than center and leftist parties, giving Netanyahu a stronger likelihood to form a coalition majority.

Israel’s shift to the right comes just as the US has taken a radical shift to the left under new President Barack Obama, he of the Patek Philippe watches. Obama, apparently, is arrogant enough to believe his victory last November means not only does the US need to give him his way because he won, but that Israel should, also.

Obama’s administration has openly rooted for Livni of Kadima to emerge as the victor. It will be interesting to see how Obama and company respond if Israel offers a hearty, “Screw you,” to Washington.

Israel widens Gaza offensive

The death toll is around 300 now, but Israel has said their intention with the attack on Gaza is to “end rocket-fire into Israel for good,” and not to re-occupy the territory. The Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, which is still around 20,000 strong, has seen a marked drop-off in rocket attacks by Hamas on Israel from Gaza since the offensive efforts have begun.

Most news accounts don’t emphasize it, but prior to Israel’s decision to assault Hamas leaders, the country was the victim of sometimes hundreds of rocket attacks per day. On Saturday, Israel suffered 130 rocket attacks by Hamas; by Sunday, that total dropped to twenty.

While President-elect Obama is posing for his post-Fenterdren PR shots, Israel has decided to act on its own. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!

Israel tests new anti-missle system

It’s not exactly as humble as farmhouse sinks, but Israel successfully tested a missle intercept system over the weekend. This system, code-named Iron Dome, is scheduled to be fully operational within a year and is built to defend the country from missle attacks originating from southern Lebenon and the Gaza Strip.

The system is designed to be effective against mortar fire and other small rockets, which have small windows of warning and intercept opportunity. Considering the constant Middle East bruhahah, especially with Iran becoming increasingly emboldened, with Iranian President Mahmoud Achmadinijad frequently talking about a forthcoming destruction of Israel, the time for such advanced defenses us likely in the “no time like the present” category.

Islamic Jihad attempts to bomb Israeli day care

A Palestinian militant group believed to be funded in part by Iran attempted to bomb an Israeli day care on Monday.

While the bomb, launched from the Gaza Strip, did not detonate and no children were hurt, the incident has been condemned by most international leaders – who then turn right around and tell Israel not to retaliate in even the most mild of ways, such as cutting off the flow of supplies until Hamas and Islamic Jihad call a cease fire. These same international leaders warn that such action would be, “morally indefensible.”

Some of these leaders apparently need brighter home lighting, since they can’t see the forest for the trees. That’s like having someone attempt to shoot a presidential candidate, but then tell the Secret Service not to take the shooter down because, “Well, he missed, so no harm done.”

Would that make sense? Certainly not!

Neither does telling Israel not to retaliate in any way at all.

Iran president promises Israel’s destruction … again.

Today, as I was gathering my clothes, my toiletries and my fishing tackle for a week-long getaway, I browsed through the news and saw this. Within a week or two of Iran enjoying its first official diplomatic contact with the United States since prior to the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979-1980, the leaders of Iran have not softened their terrorist rhetoric, but actually ramped it up.

Just today, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a public speech that the countdown to the destruction of Israel has begun. Demonstrating why it’s not possible or wise to “negotiate peace” with a terrorist state, Iranian news agency Mehr quoted Ahmadinejad as saying, “The arrogant superpowers and the Zionist regime invested all their efforts during the 33-day war, but after 60 years, their pride has been trampled and the countdown to the destruction of this regime has been started by Hizbullah fighters.”

Ahmadinejad added, “With the help of all the Lebanese and Palestinian fighters, we will witness the destruction of this regime in the near future… Anyone who works for God and believes in the power of the people will prevail.”

Is that clear enough for you, liberals?
