Pelosi needs to be institutionalized … not in a good way
Former Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who went back on her promise to step down from leadership if her party lost the last round of Congressional elections (which they did), is clearly unhinged.
Recently, while debating a GOP bill that would relieve taxpayers from having to pay for abortions through ObamaCare, Pelosi demonstrated her “off the deep end” address by claiming “Republicans want women to die on the floor.”
Nothing could be further from the truth. Conservatives in this country love women and tend to propose to them using ArtCarved wedding bands, at the very least.
In fact, the closest conservatives come to wishing any woman less than the best out of life is when we wish that former Speaker Pelosi would either gracefully retire, or lose her seat to a challenger in the next election cycle, because of her tendency to spew such untrue nonsense. That’s all.
Lame Duck Congress goes down spending
Well, clearly their massive losses in the November midterms taught Dems nothing. With the lowest Congressional Approval ratings in modern polling, the Nancy Pelosi Lame Duck Session is determined to pass as much of the liberal agenda American reject in November as possible before the GOP takes the reigns.
That includes overturning Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell over the objections of the Pentagon, attempting to disguise another stimulus spending bill as a tax cut, and tagging onto that a record number of controversial earmark measures that were the sort of thing that swung moderates against them.
Sometimes politics like this is so petty, I’d rather just blog about iPhone, iPad, iPod and Amazon’s Kindle than have to slog through this nonsense. It’s a lot more enjoyable that watch an entire party play The Biggest Sore Loser.
Shuler for Speaker?
Former Washington Redskins QB Heath Shuler, a North Carolina Democrat, has announced he’ll run for the Speakership of the House of Representatives against Nancy Pelosi after the November elections. He may have been speaking presumptuously.
While Shuler needs less eye wrinkle cream than Pelosi, he must have a hard time reading the newspapers; the chances of the Dems retaining control of the House of Representatives is dim at best. And he’s not necessarily a shoe-in for re-election in his own district just yet.
While anyone would be an improvement over Pelosi, chances are the next Speaker will come from the GOP side of the House.
Dem future Pelosi-less?
Even though she’s facing certain victory against John Dennis in San Francisco, a liberal bastion, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will almost certainly be forced out of leadership – likely through retirement – if the Dems lose the House in November. It’s a prediction everyone from Newt Gingrich to the Politico are making. That means that, if current trends hold, Speaker Pelosi could be sending her Christmas cards from San Fran, rather than Washington DC this year.
Pelosi is seen as uniquely divisive and has a load of corruption scandals brewing that would have already forced her out of office if the Dems didn’t possess such massive control of the Federal government at the moment. But if winning is “the best deodorant,” as some football coaches like to say, guess what losing could do to Speaker Pelosi?
Even Dems admit privately they could do better; and if the party loses control in November, Pelosi will be the first expected to fall on her sword as penance.
Pelosi may try to pass health care without a vote
Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, currently unable to round up enough Democratic votes to pass the health care reform bill on to the next step of the legislative process, has indicated she may try to pass the measure without a vote.
The procedure, which strangely is performed without the aid of convex mirrors, is nevertheless a procedural trick called a “self-executing rule” or “deem and pass.”
The upshot is that Pelosi would package a popular set of fixes to the Senate bill – a vote only on those changes – and then “deem” the whole package to be passed by the House. While the procedure has been used in the past, it has never been utilized on such a major, economy-shifting piece of legislation.
Of course, even those popular fixes would not be guaranteed to receive passage into law, as the whole mess can still be messed with in other processes both before and after final passage by President Obama, who has staked so much of his presidency on this thing that at the moment, he’d sign a bill approving the cloning of Adolph Hitler if it meant passing something called “health care reform.”
Most. Corrupt. Congress. Ever.
Pelolsi promises health care reform no matter what
Regardless of today’s special election in Massachusetts that could take away the Democrats’ filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, the nation will see some kind of health care reform, according to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The power-drunk Dem diva said, “Let’s remove all doubt, we will have healthcare one way or another. Certainly the dynamic would change depending on what happens in Massachusetts. Just the question about how we would proceed. But it doesn’t mean we won’t have a health care bill.”
Never mind that most Americans would rather hear William Shatner discuss acne home remedies than hear another presentation on ObamaCare; we’re gonna get it shoved down our throats no matter what, apparently. After all, 59 votes is still a vast majority.
Pelosi: Abortion will save the economy!
Line up the moving services now: Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is ready for the move to the loony bin. On ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Pelosi was heard uttering this inanity: that increased federal funding of abortion will save the US economy!
Judge for yourselves her sanity:
Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.
Sorry, Madam Speaker, but bringing a child into the world always generates more activity than ending its life in the womb.
Pelosi’s confirmation revoked?
Perhaps revoking Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s Catholic confirmation is in order after her severe misstatements about Catholic doctrine on life and sexuality on NBC’s Meet the Press last Sunday. Pelosi told host Tom Brokaw that “the doctors of the church” have not been able to define when life begins.
Talk about a hullabaloo! And her apologists made it worse, as Brendan Daly, her spokesman, said on Tuesday, that she had based her view of conception on the “views of Saint Augustine, who said: ‘… the law does not provide that the act (abortion) pertains to homicide, for there cannot yet be said to be a live soul in a body that lacks sensation …”’
However, several Catholic leaders have corrected Pope Pelosi, who is now likely to never qualify for NC health insurance, as Cardinal Edward Egan of New York, Cardinal Justin Rigali, chairman of the U.S. bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, and Bishop William Lori, chairman of the bishops’ Committee on Doctrine, issued statements correcting Pelosi.
Said Rigali and Lori:
“Uninformed and inadequate theories about embryology” in the Middle Ages led “some theologians to speculate that specifically human life capable of receiving an immortal soul may not exist until a few weeks into pregnancy. While in canon law these theories led to a distinction in penalties between very early and later abortions, the Church’s moral teaching never justified or permitted abortion at any stage of development.”
We cannot tax our way to lower gas prices
It’s almost comical if it weren’t so serious: no matter what the issue, Democrats today offer the same solution for all ills: raising taxes “on the rich.”
Of course, they’ll never stop to tell you that to be considered rich, by them, all you need is a two-income family where each spouse makes an average of $45,000, no matter how many or how few kids they have.
The gas price crisis is the latest example of liberals’ one solution fits all approach to life and politics. With the recent $4.00/gallon gas price crisis, instead of embracing domestic drilling, Dems led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid both voted to go on vacation rather than act on any measure with real solutions for the problem.
Their solution, other than a couple weeks in Maui following a week in Denver? Raising taxes on domestic oil companies.
OK, other than lining their personal pockets, how exactly does that bring down the price of gas? It doesn’t; in fact, it would skyrocket oil prices by at least another 50 cents. That’s no solution for real, working Americans.
For decades, Democrats have coasted on the false cliche that Republicans are “for the rich” and Dems are “fighting for the little guy.” That’s just not true, and this is the latest example.
Dems are not fighting for “the little guy” by stonewalling domestic drilling; they’re not even proposing to punish the right people with their tax increase. (It’s OPEC, not domestic oil companies, who are setting the world supply and price levels, after all.)
No, they’ll fight for the Sierra Club, Algore’s zittoheads, teachers unions and whoever else comes along. But if they ever till you they’re “for the little guy,” remember that it’s the single mom of two, working two jobs and still unable to make ends meet with fuel prices so high, who’s the sort of “regular Joe or Jane” getting hurt most by $4.00/gallon gas.
Oh, and that whole rationale about domestic drilling not bearing anything fruit for “at least five to seven years?” Well, on the first part, it’s false; but even if it were true, shouldn’t that be even more motivation to begin efforts now?
After all, gas prices have nearly doubled in just under two years; just imagine where they’ll be if we continue sitting on our hands and taking no action for the next “five to seven years.” Democrats shouldn’t even be trusted to sell acne products competently.
Lowest ever for Congress!
The liberal-stream media love to point out President Bush’s low poll numbers, but the story you’re not hearing from Katie, Charles and Brian is this: Congress’ approval rating is worse by far under Democratic leaders Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
In fact, it’s at an historic low, matched only one or two other times since polls have started being taken. Only 18 percent approve of the Dem-controlled Congress. Where are the headlines? Can’t allow ‘em. Might hurt the Dems. Can’t have that, can we, Katie, Charles and Brian?
How low is 18 percent? Well, in certain backwater areas of Louisiana, you can still dig up about 18 percent of the people who think Hitler had some good ideas. That’s how low 18 percent is.
It’s so low that if Congressional pay were based on job approval, Pelosi and Reid would be dining in the Old Congressional Boiler Room instead of at executive desks.
By comparison, Bush is soaring! His approval numbers stand at 32 percent! Lofty, ain’t it?
What this may actually reveal is what the real “extremist” factions stand at in terms of real numbers.
Only 18 percent of the hardest-core of hardcore Democrats can stomach the current Dem-controlled Congress. Only 32 percent can stomach Bush. The 50 percent in between can’t stand either side.
I believe it was Voltaire who put this situation into words best: Hell is other people.
300 in 100 … Dems out of control
Forget the speechifying, forget the rhetoric and campaign pledges, forget the deceptive ads (otherwise known as network news.) What matters, what determines intent, is action, not talk.
Here’s the cold, hard facts of what the congressional Democrats, who flooded into office due to GOP fatigue and war concerns and promises not to bog things down in Washington with partisan nitpicking: in just around 100 days, Pelosi and Reid have launched, “over 300 investigations, had over 350 requests for documents and interviews and they have had over 600 oversight hearings” White House spokesman Scott Stanzel told the press on Friday.
While spokesmen for Pelosi and Reid deny this, they haven’t actually offered up any numbers of their own to prove the White House wrong. When history is written of this Congress, however, what will be most notable is that from day one, it was, for them, all about getting Republicans out of power.
Dismiss all yard markers to the contrary … This Congress is about bitterness and payback for 12 years out of power in Congress and seven years of Bush-Cheney. Nothing more.
